Lisa is an experienced Professional Development provider. An Advanced Skills English Teacher by trade, she has been developing bespoke inset days for as long as she has been teaching. Her mission has been to stop pupils being let down and to share her insights and change the record in as many classrooms as possible. Her most recent in school role (Advanced Skills T&L Leader) allowed her to lead staff through coaching and development. This role proved that she didn’t need to grade observations to support staff towards success. She believes that as we evolve, so should our education systems and so she doesn’t believe we will ever stop needing to learn, research and evolve as educators.
Creativity is a huge part of her life. Writing is one of her favourite forms of creativity. As well as writing her blog www.thelearninggeek.com, you can find many of her articles in many different teaching and learning publications. Writing and sharing has led to many amazing opportunities for her. She has been an Independent Thinking Associate since 2012 and as part of her work with ITL, she wrote her book MAnglish. This book is so much more than Maths and English across the curriculum. The idea was developed while she was leading a professional development programme to rewrite the Key Stage 3 Curriculum. Her dream is to develop this idea further to bring a purposeful education, not only to typical secondary schools but also to those most in need of a decent education. She is taking time out of her classroom in 2015 to realise this vision.
Lisa writes a popular blog covering all things teaching and learning including SOLO taxonomy, planning strategies and innovative ways to engage young minds.
