Create consistently high quality teaching and learning through peer coaching linked to sustaining a growth mindset culture
The quality and mindset of your teaching staff is the most vital ingredient of your school’s continuing success. Teacher recruitment and wellbeing are major challenges for 2016 so creating a culture of mutual support for teacher improvement couldn’t be more important. How can schools deliver continuing teacher improvement over time and also create consistency and commitment?
Using coaching at the core of your teacher improvement policies will help your teachers develop the growth mindset they need to be flexible and cope with the demands of our profession. Coaching helps teachers take ownership of their own development as it promotes reflective practice and self-evaluation. Now is the time to embed a new culture of learning in every classroom through a coaching programme linked to CPD and appraisal which grows confidence – and makes every teacher ‘the best learner in the class’.
The Improving the Impact of CPD Through Powerful Peer Coaching Workshop will show you how to develop a peer coaching programme for all staff that will increase the learning from lesson observation and create an open door culture in which we constantly learn from one another. It will ensure that the impact of your performance management and CPD policies are delivering what Ofsted are looking for – continuous teacher improvement.
The workshop will cover how to use a time saving, effective 7 minute coaching model so that teaching practice is constantly tweaked to deliver good progress for all students. In addition, the peer coaching model can be extended to all staff, including teaching assistants and administrative staff. This model makes it possible to develop coaching that works in your school because it is a pragmatic approach that can fit in to the teacher’s busy schedule.
The added benefit of this approach is the way the skills and habits of coaching become integrated into classrooms so that students can learn to coach each other. This improves peer assessment and response to feedback, supporting students to take responsibility for their progress.
